Classification and product requirements
The product's actual characteristics matter. The HS code supports the classification review, while composition, technical features and intended use help identify additional product questions.
Japan Customs explains that goods requiring permits or approvals under other laws need the corresponding evidence before clearance. The review identifies the questions to resolve and the supporting information to request from the importer or relevant specialist.
Information that helps a product review
Electrical, battery-powered or radio products
Provide the model, voltage, power source, battery chemistry, wireless functions, frequency information and available test or conformity documents.
Chemicals and formulated products
Provide the composition, ingredient concentrations, intended use and available safety data sheets. Describe the form and packaging.
Food, food-contact and body-use products
Explain the ingredients or materials, how the product is used, any product claims and available testing or supplier documentation.
Other products or uncertain classifications
Send a detailed specification, clear photographs, the existing tariff code and the proposed use. Identify any permit or classification question already raised.
What happens when a question is flagged
We identify the missing evidence or decision needed before an ACP engagement can proceed. Product acceptance is confirmed within the agreed scope after reviewing the importer, product facts and relevant requirements.
If classification needs a Customs decision, the written advance-ruling procedure provides the formal route. The HS code and ACP review helps establish the next step.
Keep the appointment information ready
Prepare company evidence, appointment authority and the separate goods-and-money flow diagram. Marketplace sellers should also prepare their notation page and Japanese product listing.
Use the document checklist to connect the product review with the Form C No. 7500 appointment file and relevant Customs office.
